Dear Friends,
Thank you for the opportunity to be your orthodontist! I am grateful for the trust and confidence you have shown me! After 33 years of working with so many amazing people to create healthy, beautiful smiles, the time has come to devote myself to a higher calling.
Recently, Janette and I were asked to serve as mission leaders for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We have been assigned to the Guayaquil, Ecuador area where we will work with many amazing young missionaries to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We will be in Ecuador for 3 years and begin our service in June of this year.
Our lives have changed dramatically since this unexpected opportunity to serve in Ecuador. One of my primary concerns has been finding the right person to continue the care of each of our patients. To maintain the continuing care of my friends and family, I have selected Dr. Joseph Phillips to transition into our practice. He is caring, enthusiastic, and a meticulous orthodontist. His goal is to continue the high quality of care which you have been receiving. I have every confidence that he will meet or exceed your expectations. Some of his family are already here and patients of our practice. I know you will welcome him with the same kindness you have given me over the years.
Dr. Phillips received his dental training in San Francisco at the University of the Pacific and came here to San Diego two years ago to be close to his parents and family. His specialty orthodontic training brings expertise in the latest technology and appliances, including Invisalign and early (phase 1) treatment.
In order to maintain the highest standard of patient care and a smooth transition, I will be in the office with Dr. Phillips for some time to see patients together, and say goodbye. I am so appreciative of your trust and support. I feel grateful for the many relationships I formed through the years with my wonderful patients and staff.

After 33 years of dedicated service, Dr. Gregg Toolson has chosen to embark on a new chapter, serving as a mission leader in Ecuador with his wife. We are grateful for the trust and confidence you have placed in Dr. Toolson over the years, and as he moves forward in this new calling, he has thoughtfully selected Dr. Joseph Phillips to continue his legacy of patient-centered, high-quality orthodontic care.
