Dr. Joseph Phillips’ path to becoming an orthodontist began in the red rock landscapes of Cedar City, Utah. Raised in a rural community, he developed an early appreciation for the value of hard work, integrity, and family—principles that continue to shape his approach to patient care. After marrying his sweetheart as an undergrad at Southern Utah University, Dr. Phillips pursued his passion for dentistry at the University of the Pacific’s Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry. There, he achieved his Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS) degree, completed an advanced orthodontic residency, and earned a Master’s degree in Dentistry. He welcomed his two children there before moving to be near his family again in North County San Diego.

Throughout his career, Dr. Phillips’ accolades for his unwavering commitment to excellence culminated in becoming a diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontists. He has earned numerous awards, including the Arthur A. Dugoni Orthodontic Endowed Scholarship and the Dugoni Basic Science Research Award. Dr. Phillips’ dedication to staying at the forefront of orthodontic science is evident in his continuous pursuit of advanced training in 3D CBCT imaging, clear aligners and Invisalign, and airway-aware orthodontics. This diversity of professional experience benefits his patients as he considers every aspect of their health when crafting minimally invasive treatment plans to achieve optimal outcomes.
