Correcting Jaw Misalignment
Orthognathic Surgery
In circumstances where more conservative orthodontic methods alone cannot effectively address severe misalignments of the jaw, Dr. Phillips may recommend orthognathic surgery for our adult patients. By combining the expertise of our orthodontic and surgical teams, we will craft a comprehensive treatment plan that not only straightens your teeth but also ensures a harmonious relationship between your jaws, contributing to your overall oral health and well-being.
What is Orthognathic Surgery?
Orthognathic surgery, or jaw surgery, is considered for non-growing adult orthodontic cases when conventional treatment isn’t sufficient for complex issues. Some complex orthodontic issues include an open bite or a receding lower jaw. Jaw surgery is a collaborative effort involving orthodontists, general dentists, and oral surgeons, with treatment plans based on comprehensive assessments. This integrated approach typically combines pre-surgery orthodontic alignment, surgical correction, and post-operative orthodontic adjustments. Cases that require orthognathic surgery can span from 1 to 3 years to achieve optimal oral health and functional bite alignment.
